The Common Core State Standards Overview

Dear Montclair Parents and Students,

With the beginning of the fourth quarter, many important events are taking place leading towards graduation.  We have spring break, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), spring sports, and AP EXAMS in addition to the many daily activities.

School will be closed for spring break from March 13th through March 17th.  We will resume school on Monday, March 20th.

On March 28th and 29th all 10th graders will be taking a Science Pilot Exam in their Science classes.  This exam is computer based. Then, starting on April 3rd all juniors will begin taking the Smarter Balanced Assessments in English and Math. This is a computer-based exam that will measure the new California State Standards and will be administered in their English and Math classes respectively.

In May we will administer the Advanced Placement Examinations.  These are for students currently enrolled in these college level courses and elect to take the exam. Students will receive college credit if they receive an appropriate score.  Please see schedule below.

Our Saturday Cavalier Achievement Academy CAP has been extremely successful.   We have averaged over 250 students, all of whom are receiving extended learning opportunities each Saturday. We will continue with our CAP program this quarter and will inform our community of upcoming dates.

Spring sports are in full swing with Baseball, Softball, Boys Tennis, Golf, Track and Swimming, so come out and support our teams!

Please continue to support your student by getting involved and monitoring their progress through our School Loop system and continued communication with their counselor and teachers.  It is very important we finish strong as we head towards graduation and summer.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

As always, GO CAVS!

Sincerely,

Martin Alvarado

Principal-Montclair H.S.

CAV Academy

Montclair High School is excited to announce the inception of our CAV Academy for the 2016-2017 school year. Our goal is to increase student achievement by offering more individualized help from teachers and peers and by helping students build social relationships at school through extra time that will be built in within the school day!  The Academy Schedule involves four components: CAV Core, CAV SSR, CAV Tutorial, and CAV Enrichment.  Students will be placed into one of these four areas during Academy time. Course adjustments will take place every 9-weeks.
