Dear Parents, Students and the Montclair Community:

Welcome to Montclair High School, home of the Cavaliers, for the 2016-2017 school year! I hope you are having a great summer and enjoying time with your family and friends.  We are again looking forward to another successful year and working to ensure that a positive educational environment is provided to all students.   This year we will be implementing our new CAV Academy model, which will provide our students with more opportunities to be successful (More information on this program is on this webpage).

We also have several facility upgrades such as a brand new swimming pool, new shade structures throughout the campus, air conditioning in our cafeteria and auditorium, a new press box and more seating in our stadium.

Our vision at MHS is that All Students will be College and Career Ready Upon Graduation.  Students will be provided with opportunities to do career assessments and exploration to establish their interest and direction.  With extensive Advanced Placement and Honors courses, along with our premier National Demonstration AVID curriculum, our students will be challenged and prepared for the future of college and careers.  One of our focus areas is to continue to increase the number of students fulfilling the A-G requirements to be eligible for UC or Cal State University admittance.  As a result of our efforts, US News and World Report have named us one of Americas Best Schools, once again!

Students have a multitude of opportunities to be successful through our activities and afterschool programs. Our athletic teams are very competitive and will fight for league championships! Our Performing Arts programs excel in competition as well.

I encourage all parents and students to review the information found on our website. It contains valuable items regarding school rules, policies, procedures, and important dates.  This website is constantly updated to provide you with the most current information.

Some important fall semester upcoming dates are:

  • First Day of School - Monday, August 8, 2016
  • Back to School Night– Monday, August 31, 2016
  • Veteran’s Day Holiday – November 11, 2016
  • Thanksgiving Recess – November 21 – 25, 2016
  • Final Examinations – December 19-21 (minimum days)
  • End of the 1stSemester – December 21, 2016

It is important that students attend school regularly and establish a homework routine that will foster academic success.  With this in mind, it is important to arrive to school on time, complete all homework assignments and be prepared with all books and supplies.  Students are also asked to seek out their counselor with questions regarding academic progress and continue to excel on all standardized exams.  It is important all students/parents register for and use School Loop to stay informed on academic progress and attendance.  It is an excellent tool to communicate with all aspects of the school.

All students need to consider participating in an extracurricular activity, such as athletics, fine arts, or clubs.  Research shows that students that are active in activities while in high school perform better in their studies.  We have a plethora of clubs for students to build a stronger connection with our school.

I look forward to the upcoming year as we embark on this journey together in preparing Montclair High School students for the future. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Go Cavs!

CAV Academy

Montclair High School is excited to announce the inception of our CAV Academy for the 2016-2017 school year. Our goal is to increase student achievement by offering more individualized help from teachers and peers and by helping students build social relationships at school through extra time that will be built in within the school day!  The Academy Schedule involves four components: CAV Core, CAV SSR, CAV Tutorial, and CAV Enrichment.  Students will be placed into one of these four areas during Academy time. Course adjustments will take place every 9-weeks.
