Dear Parents, Students and the Montclair Community:

Welcome back to Montclair High School, the home of the Cavaliers! The 2015-2016 school year is around the corner.  I hope you are having a great summer and enjoying time with your family and friends.  This will prove to be an exciting year as we have several facility upgrades that are nearing completion. New shade structures in the quad, pool area, and PE area. A state of the art press box with a new sound system has been added to our stadium on the south side of the field along with 1000 additional seats.  Our brand new swimming pool should be completed in August. For the first time ever, we will have air-conditioning for the cafeteria and auditorium!

Our vision at MHS is that All students will be college and career ready upon graduation.  Students will be provided with opportunities to do career exploration and assessments to establish interest and direction. We continue to add more Advanced Placement and Honors courses.  Along with our premier National Demonstration AVID curriculum, our students will be challenged and prepared for the future.  MHS continues to have more students fulfill the A-G requirements to be eligible for UC or Cal State University admittance.  Our athletic teams are very competitive and will fight for league championships! Students have a multitude of opportunities to be successful through our activities and afterschool programs.  For these efforts, we have been named, once again, by US News and World Report as one of Americas Best Schools!

I encourage all parents and students to peruse the information found in this website and to periodically check back for updates, including upcoming important school events. We are excited to continue with our web-based communication system School Loop. School Loop allows our parents and students to connect with our teachers and their upcoming assignments and grades with a click of the button. Get registered today!  Please take advantage of this powerful system to ensure that our students are successful. Some important fall semester upcoming dates are:

  • First Day of School is Wednesday, August 5, 2015
  • Back to School Night– Monday, August 24, 2015
  • Veteran’s Day Holiday – November 11, 2015
  • Thanksgiving Recess – November 23 – 27, 2015
  • Final Examinations – December 15-17 (minimum days)
  • End of the 1stSemester – December 17, 2015

This site contains valuable information regarding the school calendar, policies, and procedures along with important athletic and activity dates. I also want to encourage every Cavalier to attend school regularly and establish a homework routine that will foster academic success. As is the norm here, Montclair High School offers an extensive afterschool-tutoring program, and it is not unusual to find several hundred students seeking out assistance and working on homework after the conclusion of classes. With this in mind, students and parents need to work closely with the teachers and counselors here and keep abreast of their progress. Also, all students need to consider participating in an extracurricular activity, be it athletics or clubs. As should be noted, research shows that students that are active in activities while in high school perform better in their studies. Plus, this is a great way to make new friends and get involved in campus life.

My hope is that you will positively meet the challenges that lie ahead as we undertake this journey together. Have an exciting and productive year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 909-621-6781.
